One of the statues in the Tuileries Gardens. The statue was made by Sébastien Slodtz and was initially intended for the Palace of Versailles. Work on the statue began in 1687, but was stopped several times until the statue was completed in 1704. The statue was placed in the gardens in 1722, and in the Louvre Museum in 1872 (when the current copy was placed in its place).
The statue shows Hannibal 247 BC - 183 BC), the general from Carthage who is considered one of the greatest generals who managed to defeat the Roman Empire in many battles.
