Comments:
One of the series of signs describing historical places in Paris. The signs were placed starting in 1992 and are also called sucettes Starck (Starck’s Lollipops) after Philippe Starck who designed them.

The sign depicts the place where the revolution of 1848 began, a revolution in which King Louis Philippe was overthrown, and the Second Republic began.

History of Paris

French Revolution of 1848
Here stood the hotel built around 1726 for Legendre d’Armini. Property in 1807 of Marshal Berthier, it was sold in 1820 to the State to establish the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the morning of February 23, 1848, frightened by the violent riots the day before against Guizot, head of government, Louis-Philippe dismissed him and began to form a new cabinet. The revolution seemed defused, but, in the evening, a group of demonstrators went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guizot’s residence, to jeer him. The soldiers on guard opened fire, killing around forty people. Loaded on a cart, the bodies are paraded through Paris, which is covered with barricades. On the 24th, the king abdicated, the Republic was proclaimed.
