The symbol of Holon Municipality - Holon the Children’s City
HERZFELD HOME Avraham (Postrelko) Herzfeld (1973-1991), one of the leaders of the Hapoalim movement in the Land of Israel, one of the initiators of the establishment of the General Workers Union, chairman of the Agricultural Center and member of the Knesset (1949-1965), chose to build his house in 1950 in Kiryat Avoda because it was a working-class neighborhood. At his death He bequeathed the house to the municipality of Holon for the establishment of a cultural-educational institution. In 1977 it was decided to establish the archive and museum of Holon history in his house.
In 1985 the house was expanded. "I congratulate you on behalf of the municipality and in my name on the occasion of your settlement in Holon. Perhaps there is a symbol in this that you decided to build your home in Kiryat Avoda, whose inhabitants turned it from a desolate desert into a flourishing settlement and uprooted from the sands green and ornamental gardens..." (from the letter of the mayor Haim Kugel to Herzfeld, 3/26 1951). Herzfeld is the recipient of the Israel Prize for 1972, for his special contribution to society and the country. He was buried in the cemetery of the Kinneret colony next to the leaders of the labor movement.
