On the sign:
Admiralty-pattern anchor, about 1805
Recovered from the Thames estuary by the fishing vessel Kathrena Anne, this probably belonged to a brig or snow, trading between London and the continent.
The stock is a modern copy of the original of which the two parts were held together by treenails (wooden pegs), with iron hoops driven over the ends.
The iron studded-link cable, introduced about 1805, gradually replaced hemp cables, which were easily damaged by seabed obstructions.
