The monument commemorates the 9 Jews who were hanged in Baghdad on January 27, 1969 on charges of spying for Israel as part of the persecution of Jews after the Six Day War.
The statue also mentions those murdered in the "Farhud" riots (looting, robbery) on July 1-2, 1941. Riots in Baghdad in which over 179 Jews were murdered.
