Garden of the Lions [Image: The Lions Garden in 1929]
Following the Fountain of the Frogs and another elongated fountain with jets, in a large garden space and surrounded by orange trees is the Fountain of Los Leones, the largest and most attractive of all the fountains in the Park. Elevated from the ground, its shape is polygonal, crossed by two perpendicular corridors that divide the fountain into four ponds or pools. At the intersection of the walks there is a very low cup, with a spout, decorated with ceramic drawings, initially manufactured by Ramos Rejano, and now due to Monsaque Rodríguez y Cía.
The lions that give it its name and that were carved by the sculptor Manuel Delgado Blackembury, are replaced by the current ones, made by Juan Abascal. This work and an important renovation of the Park were carried out in 1956. They have been recovered again after a careful cleaning in 1992.
Between the Fountain of the Lions and Mount Gurugú, at the back of the central axis that delimits the fountains, there is a pergola with benches that is preserved exactly as Forestier designed it at the beginning of the century when designing the María Luisa Park.
