Founded in 1988, the European Film Academy unites film professionals from across Europe with the common aim of promoting Europe’s film culture.
The European Film Culture Treasure label is awarded to locations where well-known films were shot.
Plaza de España was awarded the European Film Culture Treasure in 2017. Several well-known films were filmed in the square: Star Wars, The Dictator and Lawrence of Arabia (British Forces Headquarters and Officers’ Club in Cairo).
