The sign is on the wall of the Garrick Theatre, a theater that opened in 1889 and is named after actor, playwright and theater manager David Garrick. The theater was built for William Schwenck Gilbert, the writer of the opera plots, who was best known for his collaboration with the composer Arthur Sullivan.
