Comments:
One of a series of plaques on behalf of York Civic Trust commemorating historic places in the city of York.

The plaque on the Ouse Bridge commemorates Margaret Clitherow who was canonized by the Catholic Church and is also known as the "Pearl of York". Margaret became a Catholic, was arrested several times for her activities, and finally executed because she gave shelter to Catholic priests. She was executed using a press.

The bridge on which the sign is located was photographed on the same day by the same photographer Click for a larger image
