Heinrich August Meissner, A German engineer, in charge of the construction of the railway to Be’er Sheva.

במהלך מלחמת העולם הראשונה החלו התורכים, שליטי הארץ, בסלילת מסילת רכבות מבאר שבע לעבר סיני. המסילה נועדה להיות ציר אספקה ראשי מדמשק לחזית הלחימה בסיני.
During WWI the Turks, who ruled the country, began constructing railroad tracks from Be’er Sheva to the Sinai Peninsula, with the purpose of creating a main supplying line from Damascus to the Sinai battlefront.

בסוף אוקטובר 1917 כבש צבא בריטניה את באר שבע. הבריטים סללו מסילת רכבת לאורך החוף וחיברו בין רפיח לבאר שבע.
At the end of October 1917, Be’er Sheva was conquered by British troops. The British constructed railroad tracks along the coast of the Mediterranean, connecting Rafiah with Be’er Sheva.

באוקטובר 1948, בעיצומה של מלחמת העצמאות, כבשו כוחות צה"ל את באר שבע. עם השנים גדלה העיר והפכה לבירת הנגב.
In October 1948, at the peak of the War of Independence, Be’er Sheva was conquered by the Israeli Defense Forces. Throughout the years, the city grew to become the capital of the Negev, the southern region of the country.
