|| શાંતિનાથની પોળ અને દેરાસર ||
અહીં પ્રવેશતાં જ અમદાવાદની પોળમાં વસતા લોકોની સદીઓ જૂની પરંપરિત મોજીલો અને ધર્મનિષ્ઠ જીવનશૈલી જોવા મળે છે. ચોકમાં બેઠેલી કે શેરીઓમાં મુક્તરીતે ફરતી ગાયો દેખાશે, વૃદ્ધો ઓટલા પર બેસીને નિરાંતે વાતો કરતા દેખાશે અને સ્ત્રીઓ દૈનિક ાનોમાં વ્યસ્ત દેખાશે. રોજિંદા જીવનની ચહલપહલથી ધૂમકતી અમદાવાદી જીવનની આ J ઓળખ છે. આ પોળમાં ઇતિહાસના મૂક સાક્ષી રુપે એક કલાત્મકરીતે કોતરેલા કાષ્ટનો ચબૂતરો ઉભો છે, જેની પાછળ શાંતિનાથ ભગવાનનું દેરાસર છે. બહારથી સામાન્ય દેખાતા દેરાસરની અંદર અદભૂત કલા વારસાની ઝાંખી થાય છે. દેરાસરના ગુંબજની સીલીંગ, પેનલ,બૅકેટ, જાળી,બારીઓ વગેરેની નાજુક કાષ્ટકોતરણી ખૂબ જ નયનરમ્ય છે. તે શાહ વખતચંદ મલીચંદે ઇ.સ. ૧૯૨૩ની આસપાસ ફરી બંધાવ્યુ હતું. તેમાં ૧૯ ઈંચ ઊંચી તીર્થંકર ભગવાન શાંતિનાથની પ્રતિમા સ્થાપિત છે. એવું માનવામાં આવે છે કે પહેલાં આ આખું દેરસર લાકડાનું હતું. પરંતુ જ્યારે રિલીફ રોડ પહોળો કરવામાં આવ્યો તે વખતે આ દેરાસરને,પોળની અંદરના ભાગમાં ખસેડવામાં આવ્યું હતું અને ઓરસના પથ્થરથી કાષ્ટકોતરણીના નવું બાંધકામ કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું, જેમાં જૂના દેરાસરના કલાત્મક ભાગોને પણ સંયોજીત કરવામાં નાવ્યાં હતા.

|| Shantinath ni Pol and Derasar ||
A panorama of this pol reveals an idyllic and laid back picture of life in the Pols. One often gets to see cows ambling and ruminating lazily, old men chatting, a handful of women performing their daily stints on the "Otla". A beautifully carved wooden Centara stands in the midst of silence, behind is the magnificent Shantinath nu deraser. However, the awesome splendor of the derasar is only visible when one enters it. This derasar is truly a feast to the eyes as one discovers the magnificence of the most delicate wood carving in the ceiling of the dome, panels, brackets, jali, windows etc. It was built by Shah Vakhatchand Mallichand in the year 1923 A.D. There is a 19 inch high idol of Shantinath Tirthankar. It is believed that initially the entire temple was built out of wood. When Relief Road was being constructed, the temple had to be shifted to the interior and it was reconstructed out of marble and some wooden components from the previous temple.
