The Six Day War
When the Six Day War broke out, the Kingdom of Jordan joined the fighting and bombed western Jerusalem. Three IDF brigades faced the Jordanian army: the 16th Jerusalem Infantry Brigade, the 10th Harel Tank Brigade, and the reserve 55th Paratrooper Brigade. Following one and a half days of intense fighting, an Israeli flag was raised over the Old City. Today, Israeli border police forces and police protect the city and its sacred sites and guarantee freedom of religion and worship.
