The sign is located where the house of Sherlock Holmes, the literary character according to the books of Arthur Conan Doyle, was supposed to be, lived and worked at 221B Baker Street.
The sign is above a museum/souvenir shop dedicated to the famous detective.
The years written on the sign 1881-1904 are probably the years when the first and last book in the series of Sherlock Holmes books were published
