אתם נמצאים על הר הפסולת חירייה, מקום שבשנים 1952-1998 היה אתר קליטת הפסולת הראשי של גוש דן. ההר התהווה לאורך השנים בשל פיזור פסולת, כיסויה בשכבת עפר וחוזר חלילה.
על צלע ההר שלפניכם תוכלו לראות שרידי פסולת המבצבצים מבעד לשכבות העפר. השרידים מדגימים את מבנה ההר והרכבו. לאורך עשרות שנים היה ההר מפגע סביבתי, תברואתי ובטיחותי עד להתחלת תהליך שיקומו בתחילת שנות האלפיים.

הידעתם ?
• גובהו של ההר כ-70 מטר מעל פני הים ושטחו כ -450 דונם.
• בהר טמונים לא פחות מ -16 מיליון קוב אשפה מסוגים שונים, בלי מיון הפרדה.
• מרבית הפסולת המצויה בהר היא פסולת ביתית. כך שלמעשה לכולנו חלק בהיווצרותו של הר הפסולת !

Where is the Garbage?

You are standing on the Hiriya "garbage" mountain, a site that was used from 1952-1998 as the main waste landfill for the Gush Dan municipality. Over the years, the mountain continued to grow as more waste was dumped on site and then covered with a layer of dirt. This process repeated itself again and again. On the mountainside before you, you can see bits and pieces of garbage peeking out from the dirt layers that illustrate the inner composition of the mountain. For decades, the mountain was an environmental, sanitation and safety problem until the rehabilitation process began in the early 2000’s.

Did you know that...?
• The mountain is approximately 230 feet above sea level and its area covers approximately 110 acres.
• The mountain is filled with over 565 million cubic feet of garbage, none of it sorted or separated.
• Most of the garbage on the mountain is household waste, meaning that actually, all of us are responsible for the creation of the mountain of trash!
