Ariel (Arik) Sharon
1928-2014

אריאל שרון נולד בכפר מלל ב-26.2.1928 גדל ולמד בבית הספר האזורי בכפר מל"ל בנעוריו למד בגימנסיה גאולה בתל אביב.

בשנת 1948 התגייס לצה"ל. בשנת 1953 הקים את יחידת 101 ובהמשך שירת בתפקידי פיקוד רבים בהם במלחמת ששת הימים ובמבצע קדש. פיקד על צליחת התעלה במלחמת יום הכיפורים ושימש כאלוף פיקוד הדרום. בשנת 1973 פרש מצה"ל בדרגת אלוף.

כיהן בממשלות ישראל במספר תפקידים בהם שר המסחר והתעשיה, שר החוץ ושר הבטחון. בשנת 2001 נבחר לראשות ממשלת ישראל וכיהן בתפקיד זה עד שנת 2006.

במהלך כהונתו כראש הממשלה, ביקר אריאל שרון בפארן עם השרה לאיכות הסביבה יהודית נאות ז"ל. ביקור זה הוביל את ההחלטה לשמר את הר הזבל ואת השטחים פתוחים סביבו כפארק ירוק לרווחת תושבי המטרופולין והמדינה. ביום 20.4.2005 הוביל ראש הממשלה שרון החלטת ממשלה 3562 פה אחד: "לאור ההכרה בחשיבות הלאומית הרבה שיש לשמירה על השטחים הירוקים, מברכת הממשלה על אישור תוכנית המתאר המחוזית תמ"ה 3/5, שעניינה הקמת פארק איילון אשר ישמש כ"ריאה ירוקה" במטרופולין תל-אביב וייועד לתועלת כלל הציבור למטרות פנאי ונופש, לדור זה ולדורות הבאים".

בטקס חגיגי שנערך על הר חירייה ב 27/10/2007 בנוכחות נשיא המדינה וראש הממשלה נחנך "פארק אריאל שרון", המשתרע על שטח של למעלה מ -8000 דונם והוא הפארק, הגדול במזרח התיכון ואחד מהמתקדמים בעולם, של שיקום אקולוגי של שטח מזוהם והפיכתו לפארק. ממנו יהנו מיליוני מבקרים בינות נחלים זורמים, אגמי קיט ונופש ופעילויות לכל המשפחה.

Ariel Sharon was, borh.in Kfar Malal on 26th February 1928. He grew up in Kfar Malal moshav and studied at the Regional School in Malal and later at the Geula Gymnasium in Tel Aviv.

In 1948 he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces. In 1953 he established Unit 101. He held many command positions during his military career and in the Six-Day War, and the Yom Kippur War, In the Sinai Campaign of the Yom Kippur War (1973) he commanded the Division that crossed the Suez Canal. He held the position of GOC Southern Command. In 7973 he retired from the IDF with the rank of Major General.

Ariel Sharon held several ministerial positions in Israeli Governments. Inter alia he was the Minister of Industry and Trade, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minster of Defense. In 2001 he was elected Prime Minister of Israel and he held office until 2006.

During his term of office as Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon visited the Park with the then Minister of Environmental Protection the late Yehudit Naor. This visit led to the decision to preserve the garbage mountain and the open areas around it as a green park for the benefit of the citizens of the metropolis and of the country.

On the 2Oth April 2005 Prime Minister Sharon led the Government in passing Resolution 3562 which was adopted unanimously and which provided: "In light of the recognition of the very great national importance of preserving green areas, the government welcomes the approval of the Regional Master Plan Tamam 3/5 which deals with the establishment of Ayalon Park that will serve the Tel Aviv metropolis as a green lung and will be for the benefit leisure and. recreation of all the public, both for the present generation and for generations to come."

The ceremony that was held on Hiriya Mountain on the 27th Oct 2007 in the presence of the President and the Prime Minister inaugurated Ariel Sharon Park. Extending over more than 8000 dunams, Ariel Sharon Park is the largest park in the Middle East, is also one of the most advanced and progressive in the ecological rehabilitation of a contaminated area with the aim of turning into a park which millions of visitors will enjoy the streams and lakes, and which offers numerous sporting and fun activities for all the family.
