William Greenwell - An archaeologist and an Church of England priest. Was president of the Architectural & Archaeological Society of Durham (the association whose 150th anniversary is the event by which the sign was erected). Was a well-known antiquities collector with a huge collection from the Bronze Age that is now in the British Museum.
