About the sculpture The statue was created in 1925 and is made of marble. The statue is based on coins minted by the Romans after the failure of the Great Revolt and the destruction of the Second Temple, in which the figure of "Judah the captive" appears. In the sculpture, Melnikov transformed the submissive female figure representing Judah into a male figure, awakening from sleep.
