Translation of the text on the sign:
Emblem of the Fifth Battalion
The Fifth Battalion - Sha’ar HaGai Battalion, Palmach Harel Brigade
The battalion was established in November 1947, following the UN decision on the division of the Land of Israel, to which the Palmach reserve of the Palmach was recruited, as well as members of the Hachshara, fighters from Haifa and the Tel Aviv neighborhoods.

The first fighters began working to secure the road to Jerusalem in the area of Mikve Israel and Beit Dagan in a framework called "Zehavi". Beginning in the spring of 1948 (March 1948), the battalion’s fighters began operating on the road leading to Jerusalem.
With the establishment of the Palmach-Harel Brigade in Nissan 1948 (April 1948), it included the fighters of the battalion, which has since been called the Fifth Battalion.
The battalion’s fighters have since participated in the difficult battles in the Jerusalem area and within the city.

The battalion currently exists as part of the IDF Reserve Brigade.
