Viburnum tinus

Laurustinus
Viburnum tinus

Natural range: Mediterranean basin (except N.E. Africa), Israel

A multi-colored treat: Pink buds grow into flat clusters of small white flowers that brighten the winter campus. These produce grey-blue berries among bright, glossy, evergreen leaves.

[a question]
Many species of flowering trees drop their leaves in winter. But others, like this tree, keep their leaves year-round. What might be the reason for this?

[The fourth face of the cube]

[The Answer to the question]
Trees like this one, native to Israel with its mild and moist winters, can grow throughout the colder months. For this they need the energy supplied by photosynthesis in their leaves. Thus, like many other native Israeli flowering trees, this species is evergreen.
