Translation of the text on the sign:
Branding symbol of the city of Rehovot
Rehovot the city of science and culture

Bitzurit (fortification) - a two-rifle guard post
This two-rifle position is the original position of the Havatzelet neighborhood, which was established in 1939, the frontier neighborhood of the Rehovot colony.
The stand was erected at the end of Galilee Street, which was the southern end of the neighborhood before being expanded in the yard of the home of Dr. Mandela, the neighborhood doctor for decades. It was later declared a conservation building and placed at the northern entrance of the neighborhood.
These guard posts were built to protect the settlement from the nearby Arab villages of Kobiba and Zarnuga.
The position was active in the 1940s, the guards were the Haganah personnel, and the residents of the neighborhood.
This fortification is an architectural symbol of the Zionist enterprise in the country before the declaration of the state.
