במקום זה עמד בזמנו בית גולדשמיד, אשר שכן ב"אזור הבטחון" ושימש מועדון לקצינים הבריטים בירושלים.
ביום ט’ באדר תש"ז (1.3.1947) הסתערה יחידת לוחמים של האצ"ל חיסלה את התנגדות המשמרות ופוצצה את הבניין.

Here stood Goldsmith House, which housed a British officers club at the time of the British Mandate. On March 1,1947, a unit of the I.Z.L. stormed the club and blew up the building.
