The kiosk
Restoration of the historic kiosk of Hadera 1926-1956 The kiosk in front of you has been restored to tell the story of Hadera’s kiosk. The original kiosk was not located here, on Herzl Avenue. However, we found it appropriate to place it here as a prime contemporary place, in order to tell the story. We restored the "spirit" of the old kiosk - its general shape, the zinc roof, the openings and the trimmed faucet so that it is still possible to enjoy a "touch" in the lifestyles of Hadera HaMoshava from the 1920s onwards.
What did they sell at the historic kiosk?
Memories of the city’s veterans Sweet and sour trim from a trimmed faucet
Sandwiches
Waffles
- an ice cream
Candy ("Bonbons") from a glass jar
- Popsicle ("Boza")
- Pretzel
In Nachmanzon’s time
Stationery and tin toys ("Chinese")
The original kiosk traveled across several places and changed owners.
Kiosk operators over the years 1926-1937 Mr. Shreshov
1937-1945 Mr. Nachmzon
1945-1956 Ms. Ziva Cohen
- The widow of Mordechai Cohen (of Operation Boatswain)
* The years are estimated according to documents and correspondence
Location of the kiosk over the years - In front of the Colony Committee House (the market)
- Where today "Bank Leumi" - Herbert Samuel St.
- Near the old Hadera High School - Herzl St.
The kiosk "ended its life" as a warehouse in the yard of Ms. Ziva Cohen on Rachash Street (Rosh Chodesh Shevat)
The idea for the establishment of a kiosk in Hadera was by David Shershov, who addressed the Colony Committee in 1926 in this language:
In honor of the Moshava Committee in Hadera
request
D.S.
Since I am currently dealing with the sale (mistake in the original) of fresh fish in Hadera and during the summer I have to use ice and for fish themselves it is not worthwhile (mistake in the original) I will have a pity about the lost ice.
That is why I want the committee to allow me to set up a kiosk for soda in the center of the colony it is desirable that it be south of the hut of the committee house and between the road between Doreshi-Zion (the market of Hadera) and I will pay the rent or the committee will make a kiosk at its expense and I undertake to rent it for two years. Along with this request I invent the plan of the kiosk I want to set up.
With all due respect
David Shershov
[Pictures of the contract]
Signed to the contract:
Head of the Colony Committee - Zeev Ben Yehuda
Secretary of the colony - Pinchas Bern
And the representative of the cooperative - an appraiser Kolodny
Following Mr. Shershov’s letter, a contract was drawn up between the Moshava committee and the "Carpentry" cooperative - the carpentry representative was Mr. Shamai Kolodny - a resident of Hadera. The contract was signed in 1926, according to which a wooden kiosk will be built for sixteen and a half pounds. Payment will be made upon delivery of the keys. A diagram is attached to the contract.
