Maons Mosaic (Nirim) In Maon, near Kibbutz Nirim, in the Besor region, the mosaic floor of a synagogue from the sixth century AD was exposed in 1958.
The mosaic has 55 medallions, including animals, birds, fruit baskets and bowls, models familiar from Jewish and Christian houses of worship of the period.
Distinct Jewish symbols appear at the top of the mosaic. In the center is a seven-branched lamp, with legs the shape of a lions paws and lions on either side. Next to the lamp are etrogs, shofar and lulav.
In 1959, the upper part of the mosaic was copied and restored for President Ben Zvis house in Rehavia by Naomi Henrik, who was one of the pioneers of mosaic artists in Israel: a group of artists who worked in the early days of the state to revive ancient art and incorporate techniques and images uncovered To be a framework for the Tiles of Ezekiel, which were brought by David Hacohen to the Presidents house.
