Born in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany (1752-1673) The Portuguese architect born under the name Johann Friedrich Ludwig is best known in Portugal where he moved in 1701 after signing an agreement with the Jesuits of Lisbon in which he would serve as their exclusive goldsmith. He later designed the Mafra Palace for King João V, as well as other buildings.
