Was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States (1857-1947). An American architect identified with the Beaux-Arts style - a style taught at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, France, where he also acquired his education. Among the well-known buildings he designed are the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and the Singer Tower which was the tallest building in the world at the time (first decade of the twentieth century).
