He studied engineering at the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen, and graduated in 1922. Was the design engineer of the Sydney Opera House, Australia, participated in the structural design of the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris, France and was the engineer of Highpoint I one of the first skyscrapers in London. Completely designed the Kingsgate Bridge in Durham, UK. Holds the title of Commander in the Order of the British Empire, and the title of Knight for his contribution to the field of civil engineering. He has also won numerous awards and an honorary doctorate from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland
