Born in Kent, UK (1891-1976). Austen St. Barbe Harrison was the architect of the Mandate government and in this role he designed major buildings in the Land of Israel: the Rockefeller Museum, the Commissioner’s Palace, the Central Post Office Building in Jerusalem , the Court building in Haifa and many more. In 1937 he left Israel (after 15 years as the Chief Architect of the Public Works Department of the Mandatory Government), returning to his native England, where he engaged in planning in Britain and other countries. Well-known buildings include: Nuffield College in Oxford, University of Ghana (then Gold Coast) and more. In his later years he lived in Athens, Greece.
