The statue, made by Anton Schaaf in 1923, is dedicated to the soldiers of the 14th Infantry Regiment who fought in the First World War. The statue shows an infantryman, carrying a rifle with a bayonet on the end.
The 14th Regiment of the New York Militia, also called the 14th Brooklyn Chasseurs, was established in 1847, is best known for its participation in the American Civil War, but also served in World Wars I and II.
The statue stands in front of the Park Slope Armory building also called the 14th Regiment Armory. A building that was a historic armory of the National Guard and was originally built in 1891-5 for the 14th Regiment of the New York Militia. Click for a larger image
