Starting in 2020, statues of characters who starred in movies were placed in Leicester Square, as part of the celebrations for the 350th anniversary of the square’s existence. The characters are taken from different periods of cinema.
The current sculpture by Paul Day features the character of the Banks children’s nanny "Mary Poppins" with magical powers, who starred in the Walt Disney Studios film. Mary Poppins is holding an umbrella, with which she flies and her "bag of surprises" in her hand.
