THIS BUILDING DATES TO THE LATE 17OO’S AND REPUTEDLY WAS CONSTRUCTED FROM BRICK WHICH HAD BEEN USED AS BALLAST IN A SHIP FROM ENGLAND ORIGINALLY THE FIRST APOTHECARY STORE IN WASHINGTON, IT BECAME A SIGN SHOP AROUND 186O IN THE 1890’S, IT WAS PURCHASED FOR AN OFFICE BY L.P. SEIBOLD, WHO HAD BEEN APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF CUSTOMS BY PRESIDENT HARRISON. IT REMAINED IN HIS FAMILY’S OWNERSHIP UNTIL THE MID-1900’s
