This is where King Henry IV of France was assassinated by the assassin François Ravaillac on May 14, 1610.
Henri IV was one of the most popular kings of France and at the same time he was also the king of Navarre in northern Spain, known for his concern for his people and his tolerant attitude towards religion.
This tolerance cost him his life when he was murdered by a fanatical Catholic assassin.
