From 1952 to 1996, an historic facility stood on this site, where isotopes were separate. based on a pioneering method developed by Prof. Israel Dostrovsky of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Here were scientists, led by Prof. Dostrovsky, produced heavy isotopes of oxygen for studies related to chemistry physics and life sciences as well as advanced biomedical and brain research. For many years, this facility, both about basic research produced most of the world’s supply of O18 and O17 isotopes, which in turn led the Weizmann Institute to establish the first technology transfer company in Israel, Yeda Research and Development, in 1954.
