Be’eri Square At the center of the historical plan of Kiryat Avoda from 1936 was the civic center - "The Institutions Square". In 1948, an updated plan was prepared, by the architect Robert Bennett, in which the square was combined with the town hall, and it included a commercial center, government institution buildings, bank branches, culture and entertainment halls.
The plan was not implemented, but the public institutions, the Migdal cinema, the central post office, the tax office, the workers’ house and the city hall building were built around the square.
Robert Bennett accompanied the planning of the square and the surrounding buildings for many years. Over the years he prepared other plans, but they were also not implemented.
The square was named after Berl (Be’eri) Katznelson (1887-1944), who was one of the prominent leaders of the labor movement in the Land of Israel, the editor of the newspaper ’Davar’ and the founder of the General Labor Union, which established Kiryat Avoda.
