Monumento ao Infante D. Henrique
Monumento erguido por ocasião do 5° centenário donascimento do Infante D. Henrique, a sua construçãoiniciou-se em 1894, na presença do Rei D. Carlos,tendo sido inaugurado em 1900. O projecto é daautoria do escultor Tomás Costa. A estátua apresentao Infante vestido de guerreiro junto a um globoterrestre, apontando simbolicamente para além-mar.No sopé, dois grupos alegóricos representandoo triunfo das navegações portuguesas e da fé.

To commemorate the 5th centenary of Prince Henry’s birth, the main figure of the Portuguese Discoveries, this monument was inaugurated in 1900. The statue is of Prince Henry the navigator, in battle dress, beside a globe and, symbolically, pointing overseas.

The monument is in the historic center of Porto which was declared a world heritage site in 1996

Prince Enrique (Prince Henry the Navigator) (1394-1460), was responsible for sending expeditions of explorers, and is considered a pioneer of the Age of Discovery.
