[Silhouette of the bridge] Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor
A pedestrian bridge connecting the right bank with the left bank of the Seine. The construction of the bridge began in 1997 and it opened to traffic in 1999, its length is 106 meters and its width is 15 meters. The bridge replaced an earlier bridge (which was also used for vehicle traffic), built in 1861 and destroyed in 1992. You can also cross the bridge on the route that goes through the arch, and starts on the bank of the Seine. The bridge is known as passerelle Solférino which was the name of the previous bridge, after the Battle of Solférino held in Italy where the French defeated the Austrian army. In 2002, the name of the bridge was changed, and it was named after the first president of Senegal, the poet and thinker Léopold-Sédar-Senghor. The bridge is made of metal and wood.
