The name of the street is Whip or Lash street. whose origin according to tradition is about a man who was supposed to be punished by whipping in front of his house, therefore the house was called the whipping house. After he couldn’t find a buyer for his house because of the name, he set it on fire. For this he was punished with floggings, and hence the name of the street was determined, and everyone who was punished with floggings had to pass through it.
Whether the story is true or not, the drawing on the sign is of a whip.
