מתחם יקב ראשון-לציון

המבנים הציוריים על מרתפיהם האפלוליים מספרים את סיפורו המופלא של היקב. הברון רוטשילד החל בהקמתו בשנת 1888. שלושת שלבי הבנייה העיקריים של היקב מאופיינים בשיטות ובחומרי בנייה חדשניים. תהליך הייצור בו היה כולו ממוכן, והוא צויד במנועי קיטור אדירי כוח ובמיטב הטכנולוגיה של התקופה. היקב עיבד את ענבי ראשון-לציון וכל מושבות יהודה, והיה מפעל התעשייה הגדול והמשוכלל ביותר בארץ-ישראל. במתחם היקב היו גם שישה מפעלים נלווים ומחלקות תומכות שייצרו בעבור היקב או השתמשו במשאבים שלו לעיבוד מוצרים לשיווק. נוסף על עשיית היין שימשה תשתית היקב לניסיונות חקלאיים בגידול זחלי טוואי המשי ובמיצוי שמן גרניום לתעשיית הבשמים. בשנת 1901 הועבר ניהול היקב מן הברון רוטשילד לידי יק"א (החברה היהודית להתיישבות, ICA), ובשנת 1906 הועבר לידי אגודת הכורמים המשותפת ליקבי ראשון-לציון וזיכרון-יעקב. בשנת 1936 הושכר החלק המזרחי של המתחם ל"תעשיית בירה ארצישראלית בע"מ" (בירה "נשר") שפעלה במקום עד שנות ה-60 של המאה העשרים. בימים שלפני קום המדינה הוטמנו ביקב סליקים של נשק ומרתפיו שימשו לאימונים של ארגון ההגנה.
במסגרת תכנית הפיתוח של המתחם מוכרזים המבנים ההיסטוריים של היקב לשימור.

Rishon LeZion Winery Campus.

The picturesque structures including the deep cellars tell the winery’s wonderful tale. Baron Rothschild started building the winery in 1888. The three main construction stages are typified by innovative building methods and materials. The winery’s production process was entirely mechanized, being equipped with powerful steam engines and the best technology of the time. The winery processed grapes not only from Rishon LeZion but from other Jewish settlements in the vicinity. It was the first, and most sophisticated, manufacturing plant in the Land of Israel. The winery campus also held six satellite workshops and supporting department that produced items needed by the winery or used their resources to produce for the general market. In addition to wine making, the winery’s infrastructure was also used for agricultural experiments such as raising silk worms and extracting geranium oil for the perfume industry. In 1901 the winery’s management was transferred from Baron Rothschild to the JCA and from there, in 1906, to the Joint Rishon LeZion and Zichron Yakov Vintners Association. From 1936 until the 1960s the eastern campus was rented to the "Eretz Israel Beer Industry Ltd." Prior to 1948, the winery basements were used by the Haganah for training and "slicks" (stash of weapons) were hidden in the winery. As part of the campus development plan, these historic win structures have been declared preservation heritage sites.
