ESTE EDIFICIO, CONSTRUIDO A INICIATIVA DE CARLOS III PARA SER HOSPITAL GENERAL FUE PROYECTADO POR SABATINI COMO UN GRAN COMPLEJO DE CINCO PATIOS MAS DOS ENCUADRANDO UNA IGLESIA DE PLANTA DE CRUZ GRIEGA CON FACHADAS A LA CALLE DE ATOCHA Y GLORIETA DE CARLOS Y LO CONSTRUIDO CORRESPONDE SOLO A UNO DE LOS CINCO PATIOS PRINCIPALES, POR LO QUE LA AUSTERDA DE LAS FACHADAS SE DEBE A QUE ESTAN CONCEDIDAS COMO FACHADAS INTERIORES Y SECUNDARIAS EN 1978 ESTE EDIFICIO FUE DECLARADO BIEN DE INTERES CULTURAL EN 1986 SE INAUGURO EL CENTRO DE ARTE REINA SOFIA CON EL EDIFICIO PARCIALMENTE RESTAURADO Y EN 1988 SE CREO EL MUSEO NACIONAL CENTRO DE ARTE REINA SOFIA, QUE FUE INAUGURADO, CON LA FINALIZACION DEL RESTO DE LA REHABILITACIÓN DEL EDIFKIO Y LA INSTALACIÓN DE LAS TORRES DE CRISTAL EN OCTUBRE DE 1990

The sign is located on the site of the hospital designed by the architect Francesco Sabatini at the initiative of Carlos III in the 18th century.

THIS BUILDING, CONSTRUCTED AT THE INITIATIVE OF CARLOS III TO BE A GENERAL HOSPITAL, WAS PROJECTED BY SABATINI AS A LARGE COMPLEX OF FIVE PATIO PLUS TWO FRAMING A CHURCH WITH A GREEK CROSS PLANT FACADES ON ATOCHA STREET AND CARLOS ROUNDABOUT, AND THE CONSTRUCTION CORRESPONDES ONLY TO ONE OF THE FIVE MAIN COURTYARDS, THEREFORE THE AUSTERDE OF THE FACADES IS DUE TO THEIR ASSIGNMENT AS INTERIOR AND SECONDARY FACADES IN 1978 THIS BUILDING WAS DECLARED AN ASSET OF CULTURAL INTEREST IN 1986 THE REINA SOFIA ART CENTER WAS OPENED WITH THE BUILDING PARTIALLY RESTORED AND IN 1988 THE REINA SOFIA NATIONAL ART CENTER MUSEUM WAS CREATED, WHICH WAS INAUGURATED, WITH THE COMPLETION OF THE REST OF THE RENOVATION OF THE BUILDING AND THE INSTALLATION OF THE GLASS TOWERS IN OCTOBER 1990
