The tombstone commemorates the communist leader Leon Trotsky, one of the leaders of the Russian revolution and the founder of the Red Army. Trotsky was exiled by Stalin, and eventually arrived in Mexico City. There he was murdered in his home by an assassin sent by Stalin.
The second name that appears on the tombstone is that of Natalia Sedova, Leon Trotsky’s wife
The headstone is in the museum where his house was, with Trotsky’s name on it, and the Soviet hammer and sickle.
The tombstone designed by Juan O’Gorman was photographed on the same day by the same photographer
