In 1364, King Peter I responded to the request of the residents of the village of Cascais, to release them from the supervision of the town of Sintra.
On the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the event, this sign was placed by the local Rotary organization.

1364 to 2014
Dom Pedro I, by the grace of God, King of Portugal and the Algarve, on the 7th of June 1364, subscribed to the Carte de Vila for the service of God and mine and the guardianship of my land, which departed Cascais from the municipality of Sintra, elevating the small village from fishermen, sailors and some farmers to the category of Vila, with civil and criminal jurisdiction.
