The sign indicates a 4 km walking route along Portsmouth’s historic seafront. The route itself is marked by tiles on which the sign of a chain is stamped, symbolizing the connection between Portsmouth and the city of Gosport, between the past and the future as well as the chain that was stretched along the harbor. In the center of the sign is an anchor with the number 2000 on it.
Photographer’s Note: A special plaque found embedded in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. These denote a walking route along the promenade across three kilometers of waterfront between Spur Redoubt and The Hard.
