The Museum houses the work of Paula Rego and her husband Victor Willing (1928-1988) and was designed by the architect Eduardo Souto Moura, (1952-) who has been awarded several accolades for architecture among which was the 2011 Pritzker Prize. The project and the choice of architect conform to the wishes of the artist. Paula Rego was born in Lisbon (1935-), at 17 years of age she enrolled in the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art in London where she now lives, and has been awarded with a wide variety of prizes and distinctions reflecting the exact measure of the international recognition her work has gained.
The sign is in a museum where the works of the Portuguese painter and illustrator Paula Rego (1935-2022, in the year the sign was placed she was still alive) and her husband are found. The museum was designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura.
