On the sign:
A MOLIERE NE A PARIS LE XV JANVIER MDCXXII MORT A PARIS LE XVII-FEVRIER MDCLXXIII
The fountain is dedicated to the greatest French playwright - Moliere.
Molière’s statue was made by Bernard Seurre and placed in 1844. Under the statue on both sides of the sign are two marble figures symbolizing "light comedy" and "serious comedy". The two figures are holding a scroll in which Moliere’s plays appear.
