The statue in memory of Charles George Gordon also known as Gordon of Khartoum. British army officer, who operated mainly in China and Africa. Gordon was the governor of Khartoum, and fell in the battle to defend the city during the Mahdi rebellion. His death in battle inspired the film Khartoum.
