Coat of Arms of the Great Central Railway This plaque commemorates the 200th birthday on 26 September 2019 of Sir Edward Watkin, who created the Great Central Railway and its London terminal Marylebone Station
Sir Edward William Watkin was a Member of the British Parliament and one of the founders of the English Railway System. As indicated on the sign he was born on September 26, 1819.
Great Central Railway is a train system created from a combination of trains to Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire. In 1899 it was also extended to serve London, when the beginning of the line in London was at Marylebone station, where the sign was photographed.
