The tablet mentions the Rev. Clement Mary Hofbauer who in his last years lived in Vienna. During Napoleon’s attacks on Vienna, he worked in a hospital and supported many wounded.

The sign was placed in 1910 when the figure of Hofbauer was made by the sculptor Franz Seifert.
