Jerzy Popieluszko was a Polish Catholic priest affiliated with the Solidarity Movement (initially led by Lech Valensa). He was assassinated in 1984 by agents of the Polish Ministry of Homeland Security, and was later recognized as a Martyr by the Catholic Church.
