THEY BUILT THE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE Brad Washburn (1910-2007) was founding director of the Museum and served in that role from 1939 until 1980. Explorer, mountaineer, aerial photographer, and cartographer, Brad created detailed maps of Mount Everest, the Grand Canyon, Denali (then Mt. McKinley), and the Presidential Range in New Hampshire.
Barbara Washburn (1914-2014), pioneering mountaineer and teacher, was the first woman to climb Denali and was a tireless supporter of the Museum.
The husband-and-wife team shared their life-long passion for science education with us.
