The disk is part of the currency route in Ghent (Muntenroute). Numerous discs lying on the road between Grasbrug and Brabantpoort or Braempoort (the southern gate of Ghent) which was in the Middle Ages an important trade route.

The current sign taken from a photo taken in the early 19th century shows shoppers with shopping baskets on the Korenmarkt with shops from this square in the background.

The place is estimated because no geographical information was attached to the picture, but it is known that it was taken near this place, and the fact that the picture is from Korenmarkt shows that the sign is probably there.
