פריסת סוללות "פטריוט" (1991)
במקווה ישראל נפרסה במהלך מלחמת המפרץ (0-1991) מערכת "פטריוט", (מערכת הגנה אווירית נגד טילים בליסטיים), על ידי ארה"ב במטרה לסייע ביירוט טילי סקאד עיראקים. לאחר הפלישה העיראקית לכווית וכיבוש המדינה באוגוסט 1990, גובשה קואליציה בינלאומית בהובלת ארצות הברית בהשתתפות של 34 מדינות, במטרה לכפות נסיגה עיראקית מכווית. מבצע "סופת המדבר" החל ב-17 בינואר 1991, במתקפה אווירית רחבת-היקף שגררה תגובה עירקית שכללה בין היתר שיגור טילי סקאד לישראל.

במהלך המלחמה בוצעו 38 שיגורים של טילי סקאד לאזורים מאוכלסים בישראל מהם נפגעו 3 ישראלים. סיוע בינלאומי נוסף ניתן מהולנד שפרסה סוללות "פטריוט" בהר -איתן, ומגרמניה שסיפקה רכבי גילוי וזיהוי חומר כימי.

Deployment of "Patriot" Batteries in Israel (1991)
During the Gulf War (1990-1991), United States "Patriot" Missile Defense System batteries were deployed in order to support Israel’s defense efforts against Iraqi Scud missiles.
Following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, a 35-nation coalition led by the US was formed with the goal of ejecting Iraq from Kuwait. On January 17th, 1991, the coalition launched an aerial campaign as part of operation "Desert Storm". The Iraqi response included striking Israeli towns with a total of 38 SSM Scuds.
Thanks to the American deployment here, the Scud threat was largely mitigated despite 3 Israeli casualties.
Additional international support included a Dutch "Patriot" battery at "Har Eitan" and German supplied CBA vehicles
